Once the vows, rings, and kisses have all been exchanged and the wedding ceremony is over, most couples choose to celebrate their new marriage with a wedding reception. Oftentimes, however, there exists the difficulty in making a smooth transition from one to the other.

A great way to make the wedding reception flow seamlessly from the ceremony is through the use of an interval cocktail hour. This pleasant interlude should be no more than an hour or so, and will serve the dual purpose of allowing the new couple to take their professional photographs with the wedding party, and allowing the caterers to finish setting up for the wedding reception proper.

A cocktail hour needn’t be expensive or flashy — a great way to cut down on costs is to offer a “signature drink” that embodies the couple in some way. Once the guests have had the chance to unwind from the often solemn wedding ceremony, an easy transition can be made to the more casual, more interactive wedding reception.
